Nestled in the vibrant heart of Honolulu at 1108 Auahi St Ste 152, Istanbul Hawai'i invites diners on an extraordinary culinary journey through the Mediterranean and Middle Eastern regions, with a special Turkish twist. This restaurant is a true gem for anyone seeking an authentic yet inventive fine dining experience, from leisurely brunches to elegant dinners, all served with a side of warm hospitality and lively ambiance.

The atmosphere strikes a delicate balance between chic bistro and cozy wine bar, ensuring a memorable meal whether you're indulging in an elaborate dinner or catching a casual cocktail with friends.
The menu is a vibrant mosaic of Mediterranean delights, prominently featuring the much-praised Meze Platter Mozaic—a colorful array of dips and bites like hummus with pita bread, baba ghanoush, muhammara, and saffron pilav, accompanied by their famously fermented 72-hour sourdough. Every component on the platter invites you to savor a spectrum of textures and bold, nuanced flavors that dance on the palate.
For meat lovers, the Lamb Tenderloin options—whether in the form of tender 2 Shish Kebab, succulent souvlaki, or rich lamb with creamy sauce—are culinary highlights that melt with each bite, accented by fresh farm heirloom tomatoes and pomegranate balsamic-glazed onions. Seafood aficionados will appreciate the delicate Levrek Sea Bass, which complements Istanbul Hawai'i’s sophisticated dining ethos.
Brunch enthusiasts should not miss the Kadayif Pancake or the Turkish Breakfast offerings like shakshuka, passionately recommended by loyal customers who cite them as among the best in Honolulu. And to complete the sensory journey, the Turkish Kahve infused with cardamom served alongside traditional Turkish Delight provides a rich, aromatic finish that lingers lovingly long after the last sip.
Customer testimonials consistently highlight the exceptional service as much as the cuisine. Servers like Jarren and Ali enhance the experience with their attentive, knowledgeable, and warmly personalized service, making each visit feel uniquely welcoming and seamless. Guests appreciate how staff not only accommodate but educate, patiently explaining dishes and ingredient origins, which deepens the appreciation of Istanbul Hawai'i’s offerings.
While the outdoor seating offers an energetic vibe by Kamakee Street, some guests note the nearby traffic as a minor distraction, yet it never overshadows the overall warmth and quality of the dining experience. In fact, the buzz of Honolulu life adds to the restaurant’s authentic, lived-in charm.
Whether you're seeking the comforting richness of classic Middle Eastern dips, the robust flavors of grilled Wagyu shish kebabs, or the refreshing zest of blood orange sorbet paired with Prosecco, Istanbul Hawai'i masterfully crafts dishes that engage the senses while honoring tradition and local Hawaiian ingredients. For lovers of Mediterranean and Turkish cuisine in Honolulu, this restaurant is a must-visit—offering not just a meal, but a heartfelt cultural encounter.
Our waiter Jarren was amazing!! Excellent service from the entire staff - very attentive to seating, filling water, & timeliness of food. The food is always A+ whenever we dine here - eggplant & meze platter are my fav. The only thing I would change that’s not really fixable is the outdoor seating being right next to kamakee street, but cannot help it.
Istanbul offers a variety of dishes that are very unique to Hawaii, especially since there is only a small variety of Mediterranean dishes offered here. Since we were not familiar with the dishes, our server took his time to explain what each dish and how it was made. I enjoyed the different dips offered in the Meze Platter along with its 72-hour fermented sourdough, as well as the shaved lamb and beef doner pide wrap. I especially enjoyed the strong turkish kahve and the refreshing date cardamom lemonade. I also liked the fact that the interior of the restaurant complimented the dishes served. Overall, the service was impeccable and the food was exquisite. I cannot wait to come back and try out more of their dishes
We absolutely love coming here, and a huge part of that is because of our server, Ali. He has taken care of us multiple times, and every single visit he provides the most amazing, attentive service. He always makes us feel welcome, remembers us, and goes above and beyond every time. The food is incredible as well — the shakshuka and the Turkish Breakfast are hands-down the best around. Both dishes were perfectly prepared and full of flavor. Truly outstanding! Highly recommend this place, especially if you’re lucky enough to be served by Ali.
Brunch at Istanbul Honolulu was a really enjoyable experience. The décor is beautiful—colorful, warm, and thoughtfully designed—which makes the space feel inviting the moment you walk in. We ordered two dishes during this visit: the pancakes and the burger. Both were delicious and well-presented. The flavors tasted fresh, and the portions were satisfying without being too heavy. Service was friendly and pleasant. The staff was welcoming and attentive. Overall, Istanbul is a solid choice for a relaxed brunch with great food and a unique atmosphere. I’d definitely come back to try more dishes next time.
Our cousin recommended this place for the ambience and great food. We were going to choose something different but decided Mediterranean food was a good option on Thanksgiving and our anniversary. We are so glad we did. Ali was our waiter and patiently answered all of our questions. Even gave us his honest recommendations. He was great! We got calamari as a appetizer which was fantastic with a squeeze of lemon. My husband decided on the lamb chops and I got a version of fish and chips. Everything was sooo good . We decided against dessert but was still given two little bite sized rose cakes with a happy anniversary message. Which was very kind. Overall this place was great. If we visit Hawaii again, we're going back! Highly recommend.
I cannot state how incredibly impressive this restaurant is in every way worth noting. The service was great and attentive. The ambience was clearly well thought out and I appreciated the anniversary noted from the chefs regarding our reservation that evening. The food and our cocktails were not just beautiful but absolutely delicious. Every dish was well thought out and balanced. The flavors were amazing for everything we ordered. *Not pictured is the creme brulee and my turkey kahve. I highly recommend this restaurant and pro tip* get a reservation.
I was in Honolulu for a week, and one of the great restaurants we tried was Hawaii Istanbul Restaurant. We ordered the Jidory Chicken Tagine, lamb shish kebab and Baba Srf Kefte, and everything tasted delicious with great flavors. The presentation was nice as well. The only thing was that our waiter mentioned bread comes with the meal, but we were charged. Overall, the food was amazing and definitely worth trying if you’re craving tasty Middle Eastern cuisine in Honolulu!
Absolutely incredible experience at Istanbul Hawaii! Fresh off the plane and straight to the restaurant — and honestly, it was the perfect welcome to Honolulu. We started with the Mosaic of Mezza platter, which was packed with flavor. The hummus, muhammara, baba ganoush, and truffle-honey labne were all standouts. The spanakopita, Aegean olives, fermented purple cabbage, pomegranate molasses, and their Aegean EVOO sourdough pide tied everything together beautifully. Perfect for sharing. For entrées, we tried a mix of the Jidori chicken tenderloin shish, the pasture lamb tenderloin shish, and the Pirzola. The Pirzola especially was next-level — a dry-aged lamb chop with Smyrna black fig jus, Maui onion, and Waialua cacao. Every bite was rich, tender, and perfectly seasoned. And yes, the lamb and chicken here are halal, which was a huge plus. The service was warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. The story of the owner, displayed on the glass door alongside their awards, adds such a wholesome, personal touch to the whole experience. We ended the evening with tea and a beautifully done kanafe — the perfect finish to an unforgettable meal. If you're in Honolulu, Istanbul Hawaii is a must-visit. Exceptional food, incredible hospitality, and a dining experience that stays with you. Highly recommend.
